What started out as little more than a curiosity in 2014, soon developed into a passion for Georgine Jacobs.
She was taken on
an incredible 18 month long journey, developing
accent pieces for the home from recycled materials, that would be unique and visually appealing, but also durable and eco-friendly.
In the course of this journey
she explored the amazing characteristics of paper, by combining a variety of natural fibres with recycled paper, colouring the raw materials with numerous
natural plant dyes, pigments and oxides, and also developing techniques for creating interesting textures.
In 2016, after the development finally culminated in a strong, durable and aesthetically pleasing product range,
EnlightenMe Home Décor (Pty) Ltd was founded.
The name EnlightenMe was originally chosen as a play on words, as the very first paper pulp pieces she produced revolved around lamps and lampshades and the archaic meaning of “enlighten” literally means “to light up” or to “illuminate.”
We hope our products will do just that ...
ColoursThere is a wide variety of colours available - all hand-mixed. Depending on the composition of the paper pulp mixture, the same colour formula could produce different results, contributing to the uniqueness of each product.
TexturesHandmade templates are used to create textures in the wet paper pulp. These templates have a limited lifespan and once a template is worn-out the design gets discontinued and replaced with a new design.
Care instructionsTo prevent dust build-up, simply wipe with a wet cloth, or dust or vacuum with a soft brush. All vessels are sealed with an eco-friendly sealant to make them water resistant. They are not completely waterproof though, so please do not immerse in or fill with water.
